Off-Duty Nurse Saved 2 People, EMT and Fan At Alabama Football Game, Video Shows
A video posted on social media shows the moments a nurse rescued an EMT who was experiencing a medical emergency at a recent Alabama-Missouri football game. During the Alabama-Missouri football game, a paramedic experienced a sudden medical crisis while on duty at the stadium. Fortunately, registered nurse, Erin Mender was also attending the game as a fan and quickly stepped in to assist. Without hesitation, Erin began performing CPR on the distressed paramedic and was able to stabilize him.
What the video doesn’t show is that Erin had just sat down from helping another fan, alongside an EMT, who experienced a head injury at the game.
“We got up to our seats, and I was setting my things down, and this woman behind me just happened to be like ‘Oh my gosh, there’s a medical emergency over there,’ and I said, ‘Do they need a nurse?’” Erin told local news.
The EMT she helped happened to be the same EMT who she had assisted moments earlier. She quickly rushed to aid him and couldn’t find a pulse so she started performing CPR and brought the EMT back.
Erin provided the following statement to Nurse.org on Instagram, “I would just like to say how incredibly grateful I feel for all the positivity surrounding this! And I really want to encourage others to get CPR certified so everyone feels confident in these unexpected situations. If I can get one person who is not certified to go out and do it, then hey, that’s pretty cool!”
Due to Erin’s quick response, the EMT survived and is doing well.
