Labor & Delivery Nurse Wins Car on ‘Price is Right’
The Price is Right has been a staple on American TV since 1972. Originally hosted by Bob Barker and now by Drew Carey, hundreds of fans participate in a live taping, hoping their name will be called to “come on down.” On February 11th, labor and delivery nurse Amy McDonough from New Hampshire got her big shot.
On the second game of the night, McDonough won a five-piece polar drum set with a throne, cymbal, and two sticks, which cost $500. Utilizing great gameplay, she had the lowest bid of $1, and the next lowest was $675.
After running on stage and hugging Carey, she played ‘Spelling Bee,’ where contestants try to spell ‘CAR’ using letter cards (C, A, and R) hidden on the board. Two special wild cards also read ‘CAR’ and automatically win the car.
Prior to the game starting, McDonough was able to pick two “freebie” numbers, and then the guessing started. With this game, the contestant is given items, and they have to guess the correct price of the specific item within $10.
McDonough’s items included:
- Latex Stretch Band
- Hot Plate
- Pasta Cutter
McDonough guessed the price close enough to gain two extra numbers. After guessing the wrong price on the pasta cutter, Carey offered her thousands of dollars to stop playing, but McDonough chose to continue. The first letter was a “C”.
“I’m gonna die! I’m gonna die!” she said to Carey.
The second card that McDonough pulled read “CAR,” which meant she won the 2025 Mazda3 S. But she wasn’t so sure at first, asking, “Did I win?”
He quickly replied that she did win the car and flipped over the remainder of the cards that she pulled.
McDonough is a labor and delivery nurse, mother of four, and grandmother of six. She has also developed the SeatSnugz, a cozy fleece exterior cover designed to keep babies warm while ensuring nothing comes between them and the car seat harness, aligning with pediatric safety recommendations.
