He will be joining BNU in August, when he will also take on the title of professor of acute and critical care nursing.

He replaces Dr Paul Maloret, who left in March after three years in post. Julia Williams, the deputy head of school, has been acting head since Dr Maloret’s departure.

Professor Damien Page, deputy vice-chancellor at BNU, said: “We’re delighted to announce that Barry Hill has been appointed as professor of acute and critical care nursing, and head of school of nursing and midwifery.

“With an exceptional track record of nursing practice, education, leadership and research, Barry will take the school into an ambitious new phase that will firmly position BNU as a leader in nursing and midwifery education and research.”

Commenting on his appointment, Dr Hill described it as a “fantastic opportunity to lead in an innovative and collaborative environment”.
