Island’s nursing director signals departure after three years

The director of nursing for the Isle of Man is to leave the island later in the summer, with an experienced interim appointed to cover the post.

Paul Moore, who is currently executive director of nursing and also deputy chief executive of Manx Care, which runs health and social care services on the island, will be leaving at the start of August.

“Paul has been a valued member of the board and his insights and experience will be missed”

The Isle of Man is a self-governing British Crown dependency, meaning its health services do not fall under the management of the NHS. However, Manx Care operates in a similar way to an NHS trust.

Mr Moore joined the provider in July 2021 from Stockport NHS Foundation Trust where he led on quality governance, risk and safety management and assurance.

He has also held senior posts at Wirral University Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Sherwood Forest Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, St George’s University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and the University Hospitals of South Manchester NHS Foundation Trust.

Mr Moore graduated in nursing from the Victoria University of Manchester in 1997 and went on to specialise in emergency and trauma nursing, before moving into management.

His last day at Manx Care will be on 2 August. Sheila Lloyd will join on 22 July as interim executive director of nursing and allied health professionals until a permanent replacement is recruited.

Manx Care chief executive Teresa Cope said: “Paul has been a valued member of the executive team since July 2021 and, over this period, has led the continuing development of care, quality and safety within Manx Care.

“Paul has been a valued member of the board and his insights and experience will be missed,” she said.

She added: “I would like to thank Paul for his service to Manx Care and wish him well in his future endeavours.”

Ms Lloyd has worked for the NHS for more than 30 years and has compiled a lot of senior leadership experience, having held a number of executive nursing director roles.

Most recently, she was executive director of nursing and deputy chief executive at Rotherham, Doncaster and South Humber NHS Foundation Trust, from April 2022 until March this year.

She has also been executive director of nursing and quality at the Clatterbridge Cancer Centre NHS Foundation Trust, from Apr 2018 to March 2021, and at Southport and Ormskirk Hospital NHS Trust, from November 2016 to March 2018.

Prior to that, she was executive director of nursing, allied health professionals and governance at Black Country Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, from March 2014 until October 2016.

Ms Lloyd qualified as a registered nurse in 1991, working initially as a cardiothoracic nurse before progressing to the role of advanced nurse practitioner.
