Career pathways and progression at Brunel University London
Nurse education at Brunel provides enriching pathways to care careers, pathways, which enable you to work as a registered nurse – or nursing associate – in a wide range of health and social care contexts.
These include the community, hospitals, hospice, residential care, schools and workplaces, both locally and globally.
Career pathways in nursing provide opportunities for you to qualify and progress from nurse associate to registered nurse and on to advanced practice roles, such as specialist nurse or nurse consultant.
There are opportunities also to specialise in research and/or to become a nurse educator. Increasingly, there are combined roles where registered nurses can be practice leaders and also to have an education or research role.

- Nursing Associate Programme – an apprenticeship, supported by our health and social care practice partners, which enables you to ‘earn as you learn’;
- BSc Nursing Programme – this prepares you to qualify in adult, child or mental health nursing via a three-year full-time university programme or via an apprenticeship, supported by health and social care practice partners;
- MSc Nursing Programme – if you already have a first degree, this programme enables you to progress to qualification as a registered nurse in two years;
- Post-registration qualifications in Specialist Practice in Community and Public Health Nursing: Health Visiting, School Nursing, Occupational Health – if you are a registered nurse and wish to develop further, these programmes may be for you,
- MSc Advanced Clinical Practice – other options for registered nurses’ progress include an increasing range of advanced practice programmes, which also include an apprenticeship pathway;
- Clinical Education Programme at post-graduate certificate, diploma or MSc levels – should you wish to develop expertise in practice education, this is a pathway you might like to pursue.
