Nursing charity searching for trustees to help expand outreach
Cavell Nurses’ Trust is seeking up to four new trustees to provide expertise to the charity’s board to help expand its outreach to nursing staff in order to meet expected demand.
The charity, named after World War I nurse Edith Cavell, provides nurses and midwives with personal and financial advice and guidance.
“In 2020, demand for our help increased by 140%. We estimate long-term demand is at least four times what is currently available”

Due to demand for its support spiking during the pandemic, it has announced that it is now searching for three or four new trustees for its board to help the charity grow.
John Orchard, chief executive of Cavell Nurses’ Trust, said: “We must support the nursing and midwifery family when they are in need, providing financial and welfare support to them directly or through partnerships with a wide network of organisations.
“In 2020, demand for our help increased by 140%. We estimate long-term demand is at least four times what is currently available,” he said.
“So it is vital that we strengthen our trustee board to future-proof the charity and ensure we can meet this demand over the coming years.
He added: “Being a trustee is a big responsibility and an important time commitment, but it’s a rewarding and meaningful experience.”
The charity said it was looking for a wide range of skills including business or investment expertise, charity or social enterprise experience, financial management or related experience, and digital marketing or fundraising.
It also highlighted that it was looking for someone with experience as a nurse, midwife or healthcare assistant, preferably with some management experience.
People interested in becoming a trustee or finding out more information can visit the charity’s website. The closing date for applications is 7 January.
