The PPA’s Next Gen Awards exist to champion 30 trailblazing new journalists who are going above and beyond and making an impact.

After joining Nursing Times straight from university in May 2022 as a reporter, Ella was promoted to senior reporter just 18 months later.

During her career to date, Ella has become known for tackling difficult stories with compassion and sensitivity.

She has covered key moments in nursing history including the Covid-19 pandemic, national pay strikes and the Lucy Letby case.

In 2023, Ella travelled solo to Canada to report on the International Council of Nurses’ conference for Nursing Times.

Her patch now includes taking the lead on stories from Northern Ireland and Scotland as well as those relating to the Nursing and Midwifery Council.

Nursing Times editor Steve Ford said: “This accolade means Ella has been rightly recognised as one of 30 of the most exciting rising stars in the UK publishing and specialist media sector.

“To be included on this list shows that Ella really is the cream of the editorial crop. This is an amazing achievement and one that it is very much deserved.

“In the two and a half years that Ella has been with Nursing Times, she has excelled at producing compelling and impactful news and features content, and this win confirms her future potential.”
