🏆 On-Court Nurse Recognition
FOUR nurses were invited to the court for the pregame ceremony! The nurse with the most votes received the special title of Nurse of the Night, recognized in front of thousands of fans at the Kia Center. The three runners-up were also present on the court during the pregame ceremony!
Here are the 4 nurses who received the most votes!
Luping He — Nurse of the Night
I am nominating Luping because she is an exceptional nurse who ALWAYS goes above and beyond for her patients and her coworkers. Luping works at Nemours Children’s Hospital, first in the Pediatric Intensive Care unit and now as a vascular access nurse. You can always count on Luping to go the extra mile and it is not unusual to see her staying late to ensure a patient is safely cared for or to ensure her team is well supported. Luping will still come check on the PICU staff, covering lunches, helping with patient care, and checking on the nurses when they are having emotionally difficult days- as can often times happen in a pediatric ICU. Luping frequently makes big batches of food and brings it in “just because” or invites the entire unit to her house for a potluck style gathering (except she makes also much food herself that people have stopped bringing extra!!) and tirelessly champions other departments and colleagues to make them feel appreciated. I cannot think of a better person who embodies the persona of an excellent nurse and I am proud to work with such a stellar individual.
Joshua Nieves
Josh consistently goes above and beyond for his patients, not because it’s expected, but because it’s who he is. He has a rare ability to build immediate, genuine connections—patients feel seen, heard, and cared for the moment he walks into the room. Whether it’s taking extra time to explain a procedure, offering reassurance during stressful moments, or advocating for a patient when it matters most, Josh approaches nursing with both skill, heart, and contagious laughter!
What truly sets Josh apart is that his compassion doesn’t stop when his shift ends. In his spare time, he volunteers at his former veterinary clinic, continuing to serve others simply because he cares. This speaks volumes about his character and his commitment to helping those who can’t speak for themselves. Josh embodies the spirit of nursing through empathy, selflessness, and unwavering dedication, making him more than deserving of this recognition on Nurse Night.
Shonda Gregory
This paticular nurse is one of the best in my opinion. I’ve seen her take very bad situations and turn them around. She is a psych nurse, so you know she has to deal with a lot. I’ve never seen her take anything personal, she’s helped me understand we all have bad days and we are human.
Jacqueline Gilbert
Jacqueline is one of my charge nurses in the Operating room at Nemours Children’s. She is exception at running the board, listening to her co-workers concerns and ensuring the top level care for our patients. She is a strong advocate for not only our patients, but her peers as well. Jacqueline is our voice of reason and is well respected for her calm under pressure. No amount of change or stress changes her outward demeanor. She is amazing!
