Admiral Nurses to host more dementia clinics in banks

Specialist nurses from a national charity are set to host more face-to-face clinics in banks across the UK to support people living with dementia.

Dementia UK has partnered with financial firm Nationwide to host clinics that offer specialist support for anyone affected by dementia, including families and carers.

“This timely partnership will be crucial as we increase our services and reach to ensure no one faces dementia alone”

The clinics will be led by 30 of the charity’s Admiral Nurses and will be held at 200 Nationwide branches across the UK. They are set to be run once every three months for a three-day residency between Tuesday and Thursday.

Free clinic appointments in branches will be able to be booked on set dates and are not just reserved for Nationwide customers.

Dr Hilda Hayo, chief Admiral Nurse and chief executive at Dementia UK, said: “Nationwide’s backing, network and expertise will help us deliver practical and emotional face-to-face support across the country in their branches, helping us bring specialist dementia care to more people than ever through our Admiral Nurses.

“With the number of people living with dementia in the UK set to exceed one million in the next year, this timely partnership will be crucial as we increase our services and reach to ensure no one faces dementia alone.”

This is not the first time Dementia UK has partnered with a financial firm to deliver face-to-face clinics.

Last year, the charity teamed up with the Leeds Building Society to run a tour of clinics across the UK for people to access specialist dementia support.

Dr Hayo told Nursing Times last year that these clinics were always fully booked.

The partnership with Nationwide comes as part of a new initiative by the bank called Nationwide Fairer Futures, which aims to address three of the country’s biggest social issues through charity partnerships – dementia, youth homelessness and family poverty.

Debbie Crosbie, chief executive officer of Nationwide, said: “By working with Dementia UK to fund more Admiral Nurses and turning our branches into dementia clinics, we’re helping to tackle the country’s leading cause of death.

“As a mutual, we work for the good of society as well as our members.

“We believe this, and Nationwide Fairer Futures, will change hundreds of thousands of lives for the better.”
