Spurs captain helps hospice launch campaign for more nurses

The Tottenham Hotspur captain Hugo Lloris visited a children’s hospice near the Spurs footall stadium in north London to help kick off a nurse recruitment campaign.

The World Cup winner dropped in at the Noah’s Ark hospice in High Barnet to lend his support to a campaign to enlist an extra 10 paediatric nurses to work at the hospice, which cares for children from north London and Hertfordshire.

The hospice currently cares for around 300 babies and children with life-limiting or terminal conditions each year, but it is aiming to support more of the estimated 2,400 unwell young people in its catchment area.

Hayley Manley, director of care at the hospice, said its nurses were given the time to connect with the babies and children who they treat.

“Many people imagine children’s hospice care is all about supporting children in their final days,” she said.

“In reality, our nurses spend most of their time helping children to have fun and make the most of every day of their lives.”

Lloris, the Spurs goalkeeper, said: “We’re proud to support Noah’s Ark and to be part of this campaign to recruit more nurses who can provide essential care. This will make a huge difference to so many families in our local community.”
