Uber renews free food and taxi offer to nurses this Christmas
Nurses and colleagues will once again be able to claim free rides to work and a food voucher this Christmas, as part of an annual festive offer from Uber.
The initiative is open to all NHS staff across England, Scotland and Wales and Health and Social Care (HSC) staff in Northern Ireland, and is the fifth year in a row the company has offered health workers a special Christmas ‘thank you’.
As part of the offer, nurses and colleagues will be able to claim two £10 Uber rides to and from work over the holidays, and a £10 meal or grocery delivery via Uber Eats.
Last year, more than 130,000 NHS and HSC took up the offer over the holiday period, which followed a similar initiative during the first peak of the pandemic in Spring 2020.
Ash Kebriti, Uber’s general manager for the UK and Ireland, said: “Almost two years into the pandemic, everyone that works for the NHS or HSC deserves support more than ever as they continue to work tirelessly to keep us safe.
“Once again, we’re offering our thanks to these vital workers over the Christmas period to ensure they can get to work and home safely again, as well as enjoying a well-earned meal on Uber Eats.”
Dee Jama, an NHS neonatal nurse in Birmingham, said: “It’s amazing to receive this helping hand from Uber over the busy festive period again this year.
“After particularly long days or nights at the hospital, making the journey home on public transport or cooking a meal for myself and my family can really be exhausting. It’s just one less thing to worry about over the holidays.”
To apply for the deal, which can be redeemed for trips and orders on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day only, staff will be required to use their NHS or HSC email addresses.
